Hygiene regulations on board

Living on a tight space on board a sailboat implicates special hygiene regulations, to make sure everyone stay healthy and safe. Sharing a small space, with small distances between showers, toilets, the galley and the dining area, means that special hygiene measures must be taken.

When something infectious breaks out on the boat, it’s hard to stop it, and viruses like Noro is almost impossible to isolate if we get it on board. By following these simple advices, the chances of staying safe and healthy are quite good.

  1. Hand hygiene
Always clean your hands properly after using the toilets and before eating or making food. Use antibac!
  2. Using the toilets
Leave the toilet for the next user, like you like to find it.
Men also have to sit down, also doing nr. 1 – a general rule on most boats/ships!
  3. Keeping surfaces we touch clean
Keep surfaces we touch clean, like door handles, the remote for the TV, tools in the galley, navigation touch-screens, and even the steering wheel.
  4. If you get sick on board or bring an infectious disease
If you feel sick – do NOT try to hide it, but tell the skipper, and get advice and even treatment from the ship pharmacy. We also have a direct line to medical expertise through the Medico-service.

If you have an infectious disease when you board, remember you put the whole operation for all passengers and crew members at risk.
  5. Bedbugs
Be aware of bedbugs in your luggage. If you bring bedbugs on board, you will be responsible for the costs of removing them from the boat. (Normally around EUR 5000)
