Safety and welfare on board

This is a simple overview of the information that is given immediately when new crew members arrive on board.

Accommodation on sailboats

  • Never use force (figure out what’s wrong)
  • Use of toilets (nothing else than paper, emptying routine ++)
  • No open flames (except gas stove)
  • No smoking
  • Electricity (hot surfaces, consumption ++)
  • Water system (filling, consumption ++)
  • Door locking routines
  • Hygiene measures, keeping it clean
  • Special risk or danger objects/situations

Boating in general

  • Life jackets
  • Mooring techniques (1: secure, 2:organize)
  • Handling ropes (no loose on deck)
  • Fenders
  • Man over board
  • Awareness of surroundings and conditions
  • How to get help

Cleaning beaches

  • Personal equipment (First aid, knife, radio)
  • Clothing and shoes
  • VHF Radio usage
  • Where to go and not to go

Basic social rules

  • How we treat each other
  • Social media (privacy)
  • Silent hours, respect for sleep
